Usually the Grammy's bring about some crazy fashion trends, but this year I was pleasantly surprised with how well I thought most attendees came dressed. From Carrie Underwood to Leona Lewis, "high-fashion style" was the theme of the evening.
Carrie Underwood looked as gorgeous as usual wearing a beaded gold Zuhair Murad gown that really complimented her skin tone and hair. With beautiful diamonds and a fabulous gold clutch, Carrie's look really was "classic."
Another favorite of the night was Kate Beckinsale. Although she is not a musician, she presented a Grammy and coincidentally had one of the best dresses of the entire evening. The fitted black bodice with a mermaid train was spectacular. It showed off her every curve in ways that most women dream. She made the perfect decision to wear her brown ha
ir down and lightly curled. Her entire appearance was breathtaking. With a look this good worn to the Grammy's, I can only imagine what she will look like next month at the Oscars.
Although I mentioned that I was pleased with most of the fashion this year, there were some exceptions. Before I begin on the next victim, let me first give this woman props for attending. M.I.A. was due to give birth on the very same day as the Grammys and still came. She not only attended, she performed! However, there are no longer any excuses to be given to pregnant women; there are beautiful maternity gowns these days that need to be worn! M.I.A. showed up in a dress that looked as if it should be worn in a stage production of "The Wizard of Oz" by the munchkins. Not to mention that she wore her dress with high-top sneakers.
As stated earlier, I really was impressed by the red carpet this year. I think fashion is really exciting and I always look forward to seeing the latest trends. Now it's time for the Oscars!

ReplyDeleteI saw MIA, I think she did not have an option, if she wore anything else she would have toppled over. Any opinion in reference to race, gender, and the media?
ReplyDeleteI loved the topic of this blog! Like you, I'm also interested in the red carpet styles as well as the entertainment that is presented, but like most award shows, the number one question asked throughout the night is, "Who are you wearing?"
ReplyDeleteI highly enjoyed reading your post because the more I began to read, the more I was enticed to see what your fashion opinion would be next. I whole-heartedly agree on your comment towards M.I.A. However I had compared her more to a little girl dressed up in a ladybug outfit ready to go trick or treating! If you thought she was about to pop, odds are she was! I heard that her actual due date was the night of the Grammy's! She is definitely braver than I am!
I'm so glad you addressed Kate Beckinsale. I loved her entire ensemble. Then again she could show up in a paper sack and still blow all of the fashion critics away! One of my favorite dresses on the red carpet that night was American Idol's Fantasia. It was very sassy. It was a short cocktail dress with silver beading that moved with her walk. It was such a bold fashion move on her part, yet I still think it flew under the radar more than I expected.
Well I must say I must agree with you as well. I was so disappointed with her red carpet look. I mean what was that? Did she know she looked ridiculous? I was wondering if maybe she thought, “well I am pregnant and huge anyways, why not wear whatever I want?” I mean you were right you can still look good pregnant. I have a couple of friends that are pregnant right now and go to church with one of them. She always dresses appropriately for church and looks nice, but you can always see her bump. She is so cute and looks good.
ReplyDeleteFinally, I must say you did leave out the even worse outfit of the night.... the one M.I.A. wore during the performance. I mean I think it is fine to show off your belly when you are pregnant but putting on a shear outfit that only covers your belly and boobs is not what I had in mind. Those hormones must have been doing a number on her that night.
Check out this link with a story and photo of her performance, http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1139386/You-wont-Mothercare-British-rapper-MIA-performs-Grammys-sheer-dress-babys-date.html
I really enjoyed your input on the 2009 Grammy award fashion. I agree, Kate Beckinsale really stole the show. She looked ravishing. I also can’t wait to see what look se pulls off at the Oscars! I actually thought M.I.A.s decision was very M.I.A. of her. She has never gone with the flow, so her fashion decision kind of made me respect her anymore. I’m all for the “shock-and-awe” approach, so when she went on stage to perform, her almost comical outfit out the icing on the cake for me. But maybe I’m just biased because I am a huge fan. I can’t wait for the Oscar’s fashions, and hopefully you will blog again about them!
